About 56,000 acres of potential wildlife habitat on private property in pristine areas of the Hill Country are about to be impacted by the construction of 2,334 miles of double 345kV electric transmission lines.

The Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) has designated five areas as Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) and has approved Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) plans to proceed with acquisition of private property through eminent domain.

The PUC/CREZ/LCRA towers will inefficiently deliver wind-generated power from West Texas to primarily the Austin and San Antonio metropolitan areas. They will also scar mostly rural communities inhabited by a variety of land owners who do not want the aesthetic beauty of the Texas Hill Country destroyed by these towers.

Much of the livelihood from these lands is now generated from hunting, camping, bird watching and other outdoor activities. The sights and sounds from these towers will inevitably diminish property values and send tourists to other areas. None of this counts the harm to livestock, wildlife and our fragile Texas ecosystem.
