It was less than an hour until showtime Friday, and Abbie Kuhlman was spray painting her cow.
Using a rattle can of Valspar spray enamel, she was spraying highlights into the coat of her brown Swiss steer, named Emerald.
The key, she said, was matching the color so that the steer retained a natural appearance despite being touched up in a manner that brought to mind either a fashion magazine model or a person hiding the rust spots on a '98 Dodge Neon.
She then combed the steer's topline, a ridge of hair that looked like a thin mohawk running down its spine, spraying it with Doc Brennen's Clear Magic, an adhesive-like substance that is, essentially, hairspray for cattle.
"You want your animal to look its best," said Kuhlman, 23, whose family has a farm in Rome, Bradford County.
