How can I repair cracked open rubber snow/hiking boots? Something better than super-glue?

I have had the same problem with my "pacs" and while any number of the shoe goo or rubber cement products will work for a short while, I found that you should stitch them together with needle and thread (it doesn't have to be fancy needlework),

There are some rubber cements used to fix tennis shoes and Gorilla glue works on a lot of things. Aftermarket silicon sprays and mink oils will re-water proof the boots. Not knowing the extent of the damage it is hard to asses from here. New boots could
