Is it safe to spray your hiking boots (Merrell Chameleon) with silicone waterproofer if they have Gore-tex?
Your Merrell boots use Gore-tex on the lining of the boot to keep water away from your feet, so coating the outside surfaces in a waterproofer will not damage the Gore-tex layer.
Gore-tex is usually used as a coating on the fabric portions of your boot. For the leather portions I suggest you use a wax-based leather waterproofer instead, since the wax will also condition the leather while providing water protection. Silicon products won't damage the Gore-tex coating or the leather material, but they may not last as long or condition the leather as well as a wax-based product may.
