Ashly Burkhart and his brother, Phillip Beeker, are the co-owners of the new shop. The brothers, who are from the Welcome area, have owned and operated Kata Shoes at 908 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem for the past five years, said Burkhart, who will manage the new Welcome store.

"It's a smaller version of our Winston-Salem store," Burkhart said. "But we have a lot of commercial accounts in this area, in the Welcome Business Center and in Lexington."

He said corporate accounts include Atrium Windows and Doors, Matcor and Summer Industries in Welcome and Kimberly-Clark and the City of Lexington.

"We'd had some requests for a retail store here so people could come after work hours or on a Saturday," Burkhart said. "It's a more convenient location for those in this area, and if you're doing shift work it's more convenient hours."
